Maison Auger. Formerly transformation brooch in 950/°°° plat - Lot 546
Maison Auger. Formerly transformation brooch in 950/°°° platinum and 750/°°° white gold consisting of two parts, the larger rectangular one with 9 caissons and the second with a trapezoid motif. Both pieces are set with old-cut diamonds, cushions and roses, totaling approx. 5 cts - a main diamond weighing approx. 1.80 cts. The small motif used to surely be a bélière, today only a clip. France, first third of the 20th century. Incomplete master hallmark (only a piece of star is visible). Eagle head and dog head hallmarks. Early transformation. Size of largest part: 7 x 2.1 cm; smallest part: 3.2 x 1.5 cm. Total gross weight: 25.20 g. In a brown morocco-lined case signed on the inside "Auger Paris Place des Victoires. Grands Prix" and monogrammed on the top with G.R. The inner tray, sheathed in ice-blue velvet, reveals a slot for combinable parts, of which only one remains: a flat screwdriver and a grey grosgrain strap with silver 800/°°° loops. The Auger hallmark is registered several times (between 1867 and 1876, Auger Guéret between 1876 and 1889, then between1889 and 1900). The workshop was located on rue Coquillière/rue du vide Gousset, then rue Etienne Marcel, while the boutique was on Place des Victoires. A number of fine jewelry names gravitated around the Auger house, including Froment Meurice. The company closed around 1940.
