FRENCH SCHOOL circa 1700, follower of Pierre GOBERT - Lot 176
FRENCH SCHOOL circa 1700, follower of Pierre GOBERT Woman playing a guitar Louis XIV period Canvas Height : 70 cm Width : 94 cm Old restorations The mother-of-pearl and ivory guitar, originally imported from Spain and Italy, enjoyed great success during the reign of Louis XIV. The Voboam dynasty, founded by René Voboam around 1630, created these unique and luxurious objects, tailor-made for their owners. These instruments became a symbol of good taste and refinement for their masters, who didn't hesitate to be represented with their guitars as an ostentatious sign of prestige, as in the case of Mademoiselle de Charolais, painted by Pierre Gobert, whose painting is kept at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Tours (inv. 1793-4-3), and later, the Portrait de Madame Clotilde, soeur de Louis XVI, by François-Hubert Drouais in 1775, now kept at the Château de Versailles (inv. MV 3972). Expert: Cabinet Turquin - Mme Philippine Motais de Narbonne
