FREZIER (Amédée François)]. Treatise on fireworks for the sh - Lot 40
FREZIER (Amédée François)]. Treatise on fireworks for the show. New edition, all changed, & considerably increased. Paris, Charles-Antoine Jombert, 1747. In-8, bound in full contemporary marbled basane, spine decorated, red edges. (small tear in one headband, 2 corners dull). Illustrated with 1 title-frontispiece, 3 engraved historiated bands and 13 folding plates. In 1705 the first edition was published. A second edition was requested from the author in August 1739 on the occasion of the marriage of Elisabeth of France. With no new material to offer, Frézier let the offer drag on but, in 1741, the Dutch bookseller Neaulme published a second unauthorised edition and, in 1745, Jean-Charles Perrinet d'Orval (to whom this work is often attributed) published his Essai sur les feux d'artifice. In the meantime, the announcement of the new edition of his work had been published in 1742 in the Mercure de France and in 1745 in the Mémoires d'artillerie de Saint-Rémy. Finally, in 1747, this second edition appears, which corrects in part the work of Perrinet.
