LAMARCK (Jean-Baptiste de). Flore françoise ou Description s - Lot 50
LAMARCK (Jean-Baptiste de). Flore françoise ou Description succincte de toutes les plantes qui croissent naturellement en France (). Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 1778, 3 volumes in-8, fawn-coloured basane, spines decorated, marbled edges. (fine restorations to the headpieces). First edition of one of the most famous flora, illustrated with 8 folding plates engraved on copper by Fessard. This work earned him to be elected to the Academy of Sciences, with the support of Buffon. Lamarck, then unknown at the time, proposed a botanical work in French that he wanted to make available to the widest possible audience. It is a guide to the indigenous plants of France, which is the first in the world to use the principle of the dichotomous key or key of determination of which Lamarck was the inventor.
