The former Hôpital Saint-Jacques aux Pèlerins was founded by Parisian citizens who had made the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, and who had formed a brotherhood to house pilgrims. It was authorized by letters patent from King Louis the Hutin on July 10, 1315. It was located on rue Pierre-Lescot and rue du Cygne.
